Pedro Arturo Reino Garcés (born February 9, 1951 in Cevallos , Ecuador ) is an Ecuadorian writer , historian and journalist . As the official chronicler of the city of Ambato , he has reviewed the history of the Tungurahua province in numerous writings .

Life

Pedro Arturo Reino Garcés was born to Pedro Reino and Georgina Garcés. He completed his primary school education in his hometown of Cevallos, and he completed high school at the Colegio Nacional Simón Bolívar in Ambato. He studied linguistics at the Universidad Técnica de Ambato and the Universidad Central del Ecuador in Quito , where he also took Quechua courses and received musical training at the Conservatorio Nacional. Among other things, he plays mandolin , flute , ocarina , dulzaina and quena and, together with a music group he founded, has produced several records with his own compositions inspired by regional musical traditions . In 1978 he received the Celiano Monge award from the city of Ambato for his services to spreading Ecuadorian music, especially in Bolivia and Peru .

In 1977 and 1987 he completed post-graduate studies in linguistics and literature at the Instituto Caro y Cuervo in Bogotá ( Colombia ), where he received his master's degree in Hispanic linguistics in 1988 . In 1983 he received a scholarship for the XXVIII Curso Iberoamericano para Profesores de Lengua y Literatura Española in Madrid .

He held the position of head of the Escuela de Comunicación Social of the Universidad Técnica de Ambato and was head of the cultural department in the provincial government of his home province of Tungurahua. At the Universidad Técnica de Ambato he teaches phonetics and phonology , semantics , the history of Spanish and dialectology . He also taught literature at the Colegio Nacional “Simón Bolívar” in Ambato. He was also several times visiting professor at the Universidad de la Provincia de Bolívar, the Pontificia Universidad Católica in Quito and at the Universidad Central (Quito). From 2000 to 2002 he held the position of Director Provincial de Antropología y Cultura in the Departamento de Cultura del Concejo Provincial de Tungurahua.

Pedro Reino is very active in the cultural scene in his hometown and writes regularly for various newspapers and magazines, where he has also published poetry. From 1983 to 1984 he was head of the cultural supplement of the daily newspaper El Heraldo and from 2005 to 2010 head of the university library of the Universidad Técnica de Ambato. In 2000 he made a trip to the Dominican Republic in his capacity as a peasant movement activist to study irrigation systems under the auspices of the University of Utah (USA).

Some of his texts have been translated and published in Japan , South Korea , Yugoslavia and Austria . In 2004 he received the Premio Parlamento Latinoamericano for his essay volume Los quejidos del sol in São Paulo , Brazil . In Peru he was awarded the “Octavio Paz” literary prize , which he was unable to accept because he was unable to travel to the neighboring country in person.

Pedro Reino is a member of the Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana in Ambato. Since 2010 he has been the official chronicler for life of the city of San Juan de Ambato; as such, he sifts through and analyzes numerous documents from the colonial era in archives , especially in Colombia and Ecuador. He has been a member of the Academia Nacional de Historia since 2014.
