Peeraphan Palusuk ( Thai : พีร พันธุ์ พา ลุ สุข ; * June 10, 1946 ; † April 30, 2014 in Bangkok ) was a Thai politician of the Pheu-Thai Party and most recently Minister of Science and Technology since June 30, 2013.

Life

After attending school, Peeraphan completed a law degree at Chulalongkorn University and later a postgraduate degree at the Institut international d'administration publique in Paris . After further studies at the University of Paris , he obtained a doctorate in law there .

He was elected for the first time as a member of the House of Representatives in 1985 as a candidate for the Democratic Party , in which he represented the interests of Yasothon Province . For his services as a member of parliament, he was awarded the Order of the Crown of Thailand in 2005 (knight with large cordon as a special level) and in 2008 with the White Elephant Order (knight with large cordon as special level). He later became legal advisor to the Pheu Thai Party, which was founded in 2008, and has represented it in the House of Representatives since the parliamentary elections on July 3, 2011 .

On June 30, 2013, as part of a cabinet reshuffle, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra appointed him to succeed Woravat Au-apinyakul as Minister of Science and Technology in her cabinet. His appointment as minister also served, among other things, to adequately consider members of the Pheu-Thai party from northeastern Thailand in the Yingluck Shinawatra cabinet.

On January 6, 2014, he called on the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to abandon its plans to investigate 381 senators and members of the House of Representatives on charges of abuse of power in voting on the composition of the Senate. He described the NACC's investigation as unfair because only six witnesses had previously been heard and the legal basis was incorrect. After repeated calls for new elections during protests, Peeraphan, in his role as legal advisor to the Pheu Thai party, called on the election commission to hold them within 30 days, otherwise his party would take legal action.

He held the post of Minister of Research and Technology until his death, who entered Phyathai Nawamin Hospital in Bangkok following a stroke . After his death, the Minister for Information and Technology Anudith Nakornthap temporarily took over the vacant ministerial office.
