Peggy Hopkins Joyce
Peggy Hopkins Joyce , born as Marguerite Upton (* 26. May 1893 in Berkley , Virginia ; † 12. June 1957 in New York City ) was an American film - and Broadway - Actress . Because of her divorces, she was considered one of the richest women in the world.
Life
Marguerite Upton was the daughter of hairdresser Sam Upton and his wife Dora Wood. In 1910, she ran away from home and joined a vaudeville troupe. In the same year she married Everett Archibald Jr., the youngest son of a wealthy Washington, DC family. After just two days, the marriage was annulled. Shortly thereafter, she went to New York and initially earned her living as a model , two years later she became a group dancer for the Ziegfeld Follies and rose to become an individual dancer on New York's Broadway by 1913. In addition to their "countless" marriages, Peggy Hopkins Joyce also triggered some scandals in the USA with their love affairs , including with Charlie Chaplin , Jack Dempsey and Irving Thalberg . In 1950 she met the banker Andrew Meyer, with whom she lived until her death.
The role of Lorelei Lee , played by Marilyn Monroe , in the comedy Blondes Preferred (1953) is based on episodes from the life of the millionaire Peggy Hopkins Joyce.
