history

In 1946 Roy Henzell bought the 800 hectare piece of land that is now Pelican Waters. In its time the area was a large swamp area on which tea trees grew. After his death, the acquired area came into the possession of his son Bevan, who had the idea of developing the swamp area into a settlement with water canals. It was his son Roy Henzell Junior who finally put this idea into practice. Starting in 1989, the first land in the newly built place could be acquired.

Since then the population has increased continuously. In 2001 the Australian census counted 1721 inhabitants. At the last census in 2016, the population was 6,277.

The water canal system also continued to develop. In 2006, dams were introduced to ensure the smooth functioning of the system. In addition, a major project is being planned, which provides for the construction of a city center, in which above all services are to be offered and additional accommodation for tourists is to be created.
