The pristigasteridae (Pristigasteridae) living in tropical coastal regions of the Atlantic , the Pacific and the Indian Ocean , four species in fresh waters of South America and Southeast Asia . They are schooling fish .
features
The fish are 3.6 to 80 centimeters long, most species stay under 25 centimeters. Their most striking difference to other herring species is their long anal fin , which is supported by 30 to 92 fin rays. Some genera lack the pelvic fins. The mouth is mostly above, otherwise terminal.
