Peng Peiyun

Peng Peiyun ( Chinese  彭佩云 ; * 1929 in Liuyang , Hunan ) is a Chinese politician of the Communist Party of China (CCP) who was a member of the State Council of the People's Republic of China from 1988 to 1998 . She was vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress from 1998 to 2003 and chairwoman of the All-Chinese Women's Association (ACFV), and from 1999 to 2009 she was president of the Red Cross Society of China .

Life

Peng Peiyun, who belongs to the Han ethnic group , began studying at the United Southwest University in 1944 and became a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth Association of China (KJVC) in 1945 . She also became a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in 1946 and continued her studies at Tsinghua University's Sociology Faculty from 1947 to 1949 . Subsequently, she was briefly secretary of the party committee of Tsinghua University from 1949 to 1950 and then from 1950 to 1953 employee of the school section of the organizing committee of the Beijing Party Committee . She then became a member of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Party Committee on Higher Education, and from 1964 to 1966 deputy secretary of the Beijing University Party Committee . She and Lu Ping lost this position at the beginning of the Cultural Revolution in 1966 through the influence of Nie Yuanzi and Cao Yi'ou , who were close to Mao Zedong's wife and driving force of the Cultural Revolution, Jiang Qing .

She served as Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress between 1998 and 2003 . As the successor to Chen Muhua , she became chairwoman of the All-Chinese Women's Association (ACFV) in 1998 and held this position until 2003. She also replaced Qian Zhengying as President of the Red Cross Society of China in 1999 and held this position until she was replaced by Hua Jianmin in 2009. She has been Honorary President of the All-China Women's Association since 2009.
