Penk is a district of Nittendorf in the Bavarian district of Regensburg .

Penk was first mentioned in 1285. The fortified church of St. Leonhard was built between 1200 and 1250 in the Romanesque style. It looks more like a castle. The mighty tower has 80 centimeters thick walls and has several sash windows. It belonged to Löwenegg Castle until 1321, then to Pielenhofen Monastery until its secularization in 1803 . The castle Löwenegg with bailey was about 500 meters south of Penk on a rocky spur. It was destroyed between 1312 and 1316 on the orders of Ludwig of Bavaria , the reason being the feud between the Löweneggern and the Pielenhofen monastery, as the Löweneggers, as impoverished robber barons, hindered trade between the monastery and the imperial city of Regensburg several times through raids. Today only a few remains of the wall from the keep and the moat are preserved. An information board on the history of the castle complex has been standing directly at the former castle entrance since 2008. According to legend, a secret passage in the rock should have existed between the castle and the "robber's cave" or "high house" about 600 m to the east. It is true that directly above the cave, on the highest north-eastern elevation of the mountain, there was a Löwenegger watchtower to control the Naab valley . The tower still has renovated walls up to one meter high.

Today the place Penk is a popular destination for the city dwellers from Regensburg, because there is a well-known economy with beer garden and a company for living and art articles.
