Jack Pennick
Ronald Jack Pennick (born December 7, 1895 in Portland , Oregon , † August 16, 1964 in Manhattan Beach , California ) was an American film actor. Between 1926 and 1962 he acted in over 140 films.
Life
Jack Pennick was born the son of gold digger Albert R. Pennick and his wife Bessie Murray Pennick. He was married twice. From his marriage to his first wife Grechin, two sons were born. A third son came from the second marriage to wife Nona Lorraine. Jack Pennick himself worked for a time as a gold digger and as a horse herdsman. As a member of the US Marine Corps, he was deployed in China in 1912 , as well as in World War I and the banana wars in Latin America . He later enjoyed recognition as a proven military and weapons expert.
After the mid-1920s, Pennick worked as a film actor. With his gigantic appearance, he was 1.94 meters tall, and his distinctive, furrowed face with horse teeth, he was an unmistakable figure in numerous westerns . In many cases he was committed to rogue roles, and he often played members of the military. During the Second World War he interrupted his film career to volunteer for the US Navy. He was stationed in North Africa and East Asia and served on the staff of director John Ford's war reporting unit . In Tunisia he was decorated with the Silver Star , one of the highest military awards in the USA.
He later became a member of the inner circle of the John Ford Stock Company and one of the closest confidants of the legendary Hollywood director. He was involved in almost all of Ford's sound films in some way. Pennick has appeared in 41 Ford films, mostly in minor supporting roles, in the course of his career - making him the record actor in Ford films. In the Ford films Schlagende Wetter and To the Last Man , he acted as assistant director. For several movies Pennick worked as a technical consultant, including for the Western Alamo by John Wayne .
