The Pereira X-28 Sea Skimmer was a single-seat flying boat of the private designer George Pereira . It was not only as Sea Skimmer , but also as Osprey I known. The US Navy commissioned the Naval Air Development Center to develop the aircraft as part of a study. It should be investigated whether small civil aircraft would be suitable for surveillance flights in Southeast Asia . This made it necessary for the aircraft to be under visual flight conditionscould fly, was very light, cost no more than $ 5,000, and could be made in Asia. The aircraft was therefore made of wood with plywood planking.
The first flight took place on August 12, 1970. The only built copy of the Pereira X-28 is in the Kalamazoo Aviation History Museum.
