Convair X-11

The Convair X-11 (originally called XSM-16A) was the first test environment for the Atlas ICBM . Later the Convair X-12 became the second, further developed test environment for the Atlas rocket.

A total of twelve X-11s were built and tested. The first three were only used in static tests. Numbers four and six were destroyed during take-off accidents. All other X-11 successfully completed their test flights. The test series ran from June 11, 1957 to June 3, 1958.
