The Lockheed X-27 was a design for a light fighter aircraft that emerged from the Lockheed Skunk Works CL-1200 Lancer project . The X-27 took over many systems from the Lockheed F-104 , as it was originally intended as the successor to the F-104 in order to minimize the need for retraining. The X-27 received little support from the United States Air Force or the United States Congress . Due to the lack of financial resources, an airworthy version of the X-27 was never built. However, Lockheed built a full-size dummy.
