Pereskiopsis aquosa is a species of plant in the genus Pereskiopsis from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Spanish common names are "Alfilerillo", "Chirrioncillo", "Tasajillo" and "Tuna De Agua".
description
Pereskiopsis aquosa grows shrubby to tree-like , branching at the base or higher up and reaches heights of 2 to 4 meters. A conspicuous trunk is often formed. The bare, green shoots are young glaucous and have a diameter of 1 to 2.5 centimeters. The obovate to almost elliptical, pointed blade of the leaves is 3.5 to 8 inches long and 2.5 to 3.2 inches wide. The circular, gray areoles are initially covered with long hair . The glochids are yellow. The single spine , rarely up to four, is sometimes absent, is stiff, initially light yellow to white, later gray and 0.5 to 3.6 centimeters long.
The golden yellow, reddish tinged flowers appear at the shoot tips. They reach a diameter of 6 to 7 centimeters and are 10 to 16 centimeters long. Your pericarpel is provided with bracts. The pear-shaped, yellowish green, edible fruits have a diameter of 1.6 to 3.5 centimeters and are 6 to 13 millimeters long. They are abundantly covered with glochids.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Pereskiopsis aquosa is distributed in the Mexican states of Durango , Jalisco and Nayarit in tropical, deciduous forests at altitudes of 300 to 1800 meters.
It was first described as Opuntia aquosa in 1898 by Frédéric Albert Constantin Weber . Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose put the species in 1907 in the genus Pereskiopsis, which they newly established .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The development of the populations is considered stable.
