features

Pearl cichlids have a gray base color with bright blue scales and two dark spots, one in the middle and the other at the base of the caudal fin. Adult males have a hump on their foreheads. The animals reach a total length of 30 centimeters. They prefer a water temperature of 20 to 33 ° C, a pH value of 6.5 to 7.5 and a water hardness of 5 to 12 dH .

Multiplication

Percichlids are quite fertile, they can also be easily reproduced in the aquarium. Adult animals pair and become territorial. The female sticks up to 1000 eggs on a clean, flat surface. The eggs are aggressively guarded by both parents, the larvae hatch after 3–5 days and grow quickly.

Aquarium keeping

The pearl cichlid is a common aquarium fish that should only be kept in aquariums with at least 200 liters of water. They dig in the ground and uproot plants in the process, but mostly get along with other fish of similar size. The diet is simple as they accept flake, frozen and live food.
