Nobody knows Persian cats ( Persian کسی از گربه های ایرانی خبر نداره, English No One Knows About Persian Cats ) is an Iranian film made in 2009 , in which Bahman Ghobadi directed and produced by Wild Bunch. The film, which was shot in 17 days, gives viewers a glimpse into the country of Iran while exploring its secret rock scene. It won the Special Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard category at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival . In Germany the film was first broadcast on 3sat on June 15, 2011 in the original with German subtitles. With this film, Bahman Ghobadi contributed to addressing the current situation in Iran and making it publicly available to a wider audience.

The film is about the two young musicians Ashkan and Negar who, after their release from prison, try to form a band in order to leave Iran with them. The couple befriends a man named Nader, an underground music enthusiast and producer, who helps them travel around Tehran and the surrounding area to meet potential members for their band. The film shows many legal and cultural problems of independent musicians and the youth in conservative Iran in general.
The film features music from the genres of rap, jazz, electric blues and heavy metal, among others. Take It Easy Hospital , a band appearing in the film, now lives in London and contributed four songs to the film.
criticism
Torang Abedian, an Iranian filmmaker, accuses Ghobadi of stealing the story of her film Not an Illusion , which was filmed in Tehran from 2003 to 2008 - both films were released in 2009, with Abedian's film being more successful than Persian cats knows nobody stayed away.
