Pery Ribeiro
Pery Ribeiro (actually Peri Martins , born October 27, 1937 in Rio de Janeiro ; † February 24, 2012 ibid) was a Brazilian actor and singer who is considered one of the central figures of Bossa Nova and the Música Popular Brasileira .
Life
Pery Ribeiro was the son of the composer Herivelto Martins and the singer Dalva de Oliveira ; he began his career in 1944 as a child actor in the film Berlim na Batucada by Luís de Barros . As a singer he made his debut in Paulo Gracindo's radio show in 1959 at the Rádio Nacional, where he took the stage name Pery Ribeiro . In 1960 he published the first song Não Devo Insistir ; Bossa Nova classics such as Manhã de Carnaval and Samba de Orfeu followed from 1961 , composed by Luiz Bonfá / Antônio Maria or Barquinho (by Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli ). In 1962 he put his debut album Pery Ribeiro e Seu Mundo de Canções Românticas , on which he was accompanied by guitarist Luiz Bonfá, and the hit Garota de Ipanema ( Tom Jobim / Vinícius de Moraes ). In 1964 Ribeiro's album Pery Muito Mais Bossa followed with compositions by Baden Powell , Eumir Deodato and others. a., In the same year he founded the Ensemble Gemini V with Leny Andrade and Bossa 3 , with which a number of albums were created. In 1967 he gave concerts in Mexico; In 1966 Ribeiro went on a US tour with the Bossa Rio troupe (including Sérgio Mendes ). Ribeiro, who continued his career until shortly before his death, died at the age of 74 in a hospital in Rio de Janeiro of complications from a heart attack .
