The Pesa Gama is a family of locomotives developed by PESA Bydgoszcz .

prehistory

After the Second World War, there were three major locomotive manufacturers in Poland: Fablok , Cegielski , and Pafawag . All companies stopped their production in the 1990s, with Pafawag still manufacturing electric locomotives of the EU11 and EU43 series for PKP between 1997 and 2002 under the new owner Adtranz . Due to financial bottlenecks at PKP , there was no delivery.

A new electric locomotive produced in Poland was presented in 2009. The Dragon locomotive is intended for heavy freight traffic. The producer ZNLE Gliwice (later taken over by Newag ) presented the Griffin during InnoTrans 2012 , while Pesa presented the competing product Gama .

In 2001, Pesa made the decision to focus more on the production of rail vehicles instead of maintenance work.

The first locomotive from the Gama family was the 111Ed Marathon , which (by the partial financing of the National Center for Studies and Development Polish Narodowe Centrum Badań i Rozwoju was). Production started in 2012. The first test drives took place in October 2012. Test drives were carried out at various transport companies for full operating approval. On July 10, 2014, the Rail Transport Authority ( Urząd Transportu Kolejowego in Polish ) granted the operating license.

The first diesel version was completed in July 2014. Ten copies were ordered from PKP Intercity . In December 2014, test drives were carried out with freight and passenger trains.

Pesa offers several variations. The portfolio includes electric locomotives for different power systems that can optionally reach a top speed of up to 200 km / h.
