Pestrup is a farming community in the rural community of Wildeshausen in the Lower Saxony district of Oldenburg .

The village of Pestrup, which has 15 residents, is located between the K 248 district road and the Hunte, which runs to the east . It belongs to the so-called rural community of Wildeshausen surrounding the core area .

Culture and sights

Pestrup burial ground at the time of the heather bloom

The Pestrup burial ground , approx. 1.5 km northwest of the K 248, is the largest Bronze and Iron Age necropolis in northern Central Europe. There are around 500 larger and smaller burial mounds on an area of ​​39  hectares . The burial ground is part of the Route of the Megalithic Culture and part of the nature reserve Pestruper Gräberfeld und Rosengarten .

The 35 hectare Pestruper Moor, which is also approx. 1.5 km northwest of Pestrup, is also designated as a nature reserve. It connects to the northeast of the Pestrup burial ground and lies on the right of the K 248. This moor is a low moor .
