Parish church hl. Martin in Himmelberg

The Roman Catholic parish church of Himmelberg in the municipality of the same name in Himmelberg in Carinthia is dedicated to St. Martin . The church, first mentioned between 1060 and 1076, was badly damaged by fire in 1711 and when it was restored in 1770 it was extended by a yoke to the west. The building is a listed building .

Building description

The church is a large Gothic building that has undergone baroque changes. Between the core of the 13th century nave and the choir from the 13th century is the tower, which is Gothic in the core. The bell projectile dates from the 19th century, has ogival sound openings and is crowned by a pointed helmet. Three-tiered buttresses support the choir . The figural tombstone of Balthasar von Pibriach († 1556) was probably created by Gallus Selinger. A sacristy with an iron-studded door is built on the south side . A two-armed staircase leads to the organ gallery above the west entrance.

The barrel vault of the 17th century In the nave is divided into four yokes by stitch caps and belt arches with rosettes. The strongly indented wall pillars form ogival arcades. The stucco fields and vaults are emphasized by a shed frame. The slightly protruding organ loft is arched with a groin . The Lodron's coat of arms can be seen on the organ parapet . A chapel with a groin vault is built to the south of the eastern nave yoke. To the south of the groin-vaulted tower square is the sacristy with an oratory on the upper floor. The stone arch of the former portal was walled in next to the vestry entrance. The tower square opens with a round arched triumphal arch to the nave and with a pointed arch to the end of the three-eighth choir.

The baroque wall paintings in the nave depict Jesus between Mary and Joseph , the Holy Trinity , the Assumption of Mary and the Resurrection .

Facility

The high altar - a sacrificial aisle from the middle of the 18th century - fills the choir closure in full height and width. The altarpiece shows St. Martin. On the side are the statues of Saints John the Baptist , Joseph, Peter and Paul . The carving group in the top represents the coronation of Mary .

The right side altar with a wall retable from the middle of the 18th century bears a statue of the Virgin , which is flanked by the figures of her parents Anna and Joachim . The top picture shows Saint Joseph.

The Nicholas altar on the left carries the statues of Saints Sebastian and Jerome .

In the side chapel there is the 14 Holy Helper from 1742 with heavy architecture and a carved antependium with foliage and ribbon . On the main floor it has a carved group with Saint Bernard in front of the Mother of God and in the essay the figure of God the Father and the dove of the Holy Spirit.

The pulpit from the middle of the 18th century bears the figures of the four church fathers Gregor , Augustine , Ambrosius and Hieronymus on the bulge of the basket . The back wall of the pulpit forms a full-length relief representation of the Good Shepherd . The evangelist symbols are attached to the sound cover . The Gothic font is placed under the pulpit .

Other fittings in the church include the console statues of Saints Florian , Leonhard , Isidor and Notburga from the end of the 18th century, as well as the figure of Saint Florian from the first half of the 18th century in a niche.

The organ was made in 1923 by the organ building company Cäcilia and consecrated on October 14, 1923. It consists of two manuals and a pedal , the two manuals comprising 56 tones (corresponds to Cg '' ') and the pedal 27 tones (corresponds to Cd'). The Manual 1 has six, the manual 2 and the pedal five two registers . Organists in the Himmelberg parish church are Richard Orasch and Maximilian Senk.

In the Gothic tower of the parish church hang three bells (c sharp, e, g sharp) with a total weight of almost 3600 kg. The largest bell is a steel bell (cis) weighing 1900 kg, cast in 1921 by the Böhler company in Kapfenberg . The middle bell with the inscriptions "Peace be with you" and "If you knew how much I love you" is a bronze bell (s) with a weight of 1116 kg, cast in 1968 by the Graßmayer company in Innsbruck. The small bell, the death knell, with the inscription "Lord, give the poor souls eternal rest" is also a bronze bell (g sharp) with a weight of 561 kg, also cast in 1968. The wooden belfry had to be made in 1982 be replaced by a steel bell cage , the bell is electric and fully automatic.

Karner

The former Karner north of the church is an octagonal, Gothic building with a pyramid roof and beveled round arch portal. The stab cap vault of the interior was provided with acanthus stucco around 1710 . Today it serves as a funeral hall.

organ

As early as 1743, an organ with four registers was mentioned for Himmelberg. In 1863 there is talk of a large organ, which was built in 1846, and a "possitive" with two registers. The great organ from 1846, whose builder is unknown, was repaired in 1873 and repaired and rebuilt in 1889 by Franz Grafenauer (Egg). The organ had 9 or 10 stops.

Today's organ was built in 1923 by the Salzburger Werkstätten Cäcilia Orgelbau. The old case and usable pipe material were reused. The organ audition took place on September 11, 1923. A repair is documented from 1936.

Organ of the parish church

The pipes of the manual works and the blower system are located in the green marbled organ case. The pedal whistles are in their own shed behind the organ. The console stands free in front of the organ, the organist looks into the nave. The registers are operated by plastic switches that have to be pushed down to switch on. Each movement has a release button, which is located in the middle above the register switches of a movement. The couplers can also be operated using the register switches. All switches are in a row above the second manual. To the right of this is the mechanical pointer for the crescendo kick. The playing aids are located as narrow wooden switches between the manuals, to switch on the switches click into place, to switch off the corresponding release button must be pressed. The crescendo is operated via the wooden tilting step above the pedal keyboard. The actions are pneumatic, the wind chests are designed as cone chests. The organ was consecrated on May 5, 2019 after a restoration by organ builder Walter Vonbank from Murau.
