Pete Miller

Richard "Pete" Miller (born May 4, 1952 ) is an American basketball coach and official and former player.

career

Miller studied at San José State University until 1975 and then played as a professional basketball player for NN Donar in Groningen, the Netherlands (1975 to 1978) as well as in the German basketball league for TuS 04 Leverkusen and in the 2nd basketball league for FC Bayern Munich .

From 1985 to 1987 Miller worked as a trainer at the Munich club DJK Sportbund, from 1987 to 1989 at SG Munich and from 1989 to 1993 at the second division Lotus Munich . In 1993 Miller moved to TG Landshut , for whom he was employed as a sports director, during the 1995/96 Bundesliga season also as a coach. He stayed in Landshut until 1998 and was then employed as a coach for the second division TSV Breitengüßbach for two years . In 1998/99 Miller worked for the Bundesliga club DJK Würzburg as a scout, in 2000 he returned to Landshut and was active there until 2005 as sports director, assistant coach of the men's team and head coach of the second men's team.

In the summer of 2005 he was hired by Bundesliga club Telekom Baskets Bonn as sports director and also looked after the Rhinelander U19 team in the youth basketball league (NBBL). In the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons he led the team under the top four of the NBBL. In 2008, Miller moved as head coach to the Dutch first division club Aris Friesland Leeuwarden. He stayed in office for three years, in the 2009/10 season Aris reached the semi-finals of the championship round in the Dutch honor division under his leadership.

From the beginning of the 2011/12 season he coached the Austrian Bundesliga club WBC Wels. In the 2011/12 season, Wels advanced to the semi-finals of the playoffs under Miller.

In March 2015, he took over the post of head coach at the relegation-threatened BV Chemnitz 99 in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA , after it was previously announced that Miller would be the sports director of Chemnitz from April 2015. He led the team to relegation and then moved to the post of sports director as planned. In March 2016, Miller and the Saxons separated.

He then worked temporarily as a players agent. In August 2017 Miller started his service as head coach of the RTC Noord basketball academy in Groningen and as a youth coach at Donar Groningen.
