Peter Øvig Knudsen
Peter Øvig Knudsen (born October 9, 1961 in Holme, Aarhus ) is a Danish journalist and writer who was awarded the Søren Gyldendal Prize in 2008 .
Life
Øvig Knudsen was involved in the youth organization of the Kommunistisk Arbejderparti (KAP) during his school days at Viby Amtsgymnasium and began studying journalism at Danmarks Journalisthøjskole after attending school . After completing his studies in 1987 he made his literary debut with the novel Er du da sindssyg , but he was a full-time journalist and after an internship at the tabloid Ekstra Bladet worked for the press office Sidelingen, the magazine Månedsbladet Press , the daily newspaper Dagbladet Information , the weekly newspaper Weekendavisen and Danmarks Radio , where he was the presenter of the interview radio show Marathon .
He has been a full-time writer since 2003 and received a scholarship from the State Art Council from 2005 to 2006 . In 2003 he and Morten Henriksen wrote the script for the documentary Med ret til at dræbe , which deals with the time of Denmark under German occupation and was based on the novel Efter drabet og Birkedal . In January 2004 the film was awarded the Robert Film Prize for the best long documentary film. In addition, he received the Rosenkjærprisen awarded by Danmarks Radio and other literary prizes for the book Birkedal (2004) .
Øvig Knudsen's greatest success so far was with the books about the Blekingegade gangs , a group of twelve communist political activists who carried out a series of armed robberies in the 1970s and 1980s and sent most of the money stolen to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) . For the books Den danske celle and Den hårde kerne , published in 2007, he received the Cavling Prize in 2007 and the Søren Gyldendal Prize in 2008. In 2008, he worked as a consultant on the resulting television series and television documentary.
