Life

Becher does not come "from a Sudeten German dignitary family" for liqueur production. as he said in the broadcast of December 28, 2006, 8.15 p.m. Dr. Peter Becher Managing Director of the Adalbert Stifter Verein eV in conversation with Dr. Eberhard Büssem put it right:

“Let me start with the ' Becherovka ': We are repeatedly referred to this company, which used to be called 'Becherbitter'. It is true that the founder of this liquor company comes from broader relatives, but he is not a direct ancestor of mine. ... The liqueur factory came from one branch, so to speak, and we from a somewhat poorer branch. "

In his high school years he played as a handball player in the national junior team. After graduating from the Thomas-Mann-Gymnasium in Munich, he did community service and then studied German and history. In 1981 he received his doctorate from Friedrich Prinz in Munich, a member of the Sudeten German Academy of Sciences and Arts since 1979, with a thesis on literary and historiographical depictions of the fall of the Danube monarchy . He gained his first professional experience in youth work (BdP) at Bayerischer Rundfunk, his father was also a broadcasting councilor: “The state parliament delegated five of its members, including for the GB / BHE party, to this mixed body that has to watch out for Bavarian radio / NDU the Dr. Walter Becher… “There was no employment at the Goethe-Institut because of joining the Adalbert Stifter Verein:

“Because I actually already had the prospect of a job at the Goethe-Institut after I had passed the selection process, which I was very happy at the time. But then the year of preparation, which you have to complete there, has been suspended for a whole year. Exactly in this year the management position of the Adalbert-Stifter-Verein was advertised because my predecessor Johanna von Herzogenberg has retired. So I applied and thought, 'Why not?' I was almost amazed when I was offered this position. And of course my family background also plays a role. My family on my father's side comes from Karlsbad. So I also had an affinity for the cultural history of this country. "
