Peter Braubach (* around 1500 in Braubach ; † 1567 in Frankfurt am Main ) was the first book printer in the imperial city of Schwäbisch Hall in what is now northern Baden-Württemberg from 1536 .

Life

Peter Braubach studied at the University of Wittenberg and then took over the printing company of his father-in-law in Hagenau in Alsace . Presumably he was induced by Johannes Brenz to relocate his printing works to Schwäbisch Hall. There he set up his workshop in a house on Zollhüttengasse.

In Schwäbisch Hall, Peter Braubach printed 38 well-known works, especially Philipp Melanchthon , Johannes Brenz and other theologians and humanists as well as Greek and Latin classics such as Cicero , Ovid and Xenophon . After four years in Schwäbisch Hall, he moved to Frankfurt am Main, where he died in 1567.
