Peter Bruns (theologian)

Peter Bruns (born January 26, 1961 in Essen ) is a German Roman Catholic clergyman , theologian and church historian .

Life

Peter Bruns was born in Essen as the only child of Heinrich Bruns. After graduating from high school at Burggymnasium in his hometown, he studied Catholic theology at the Ruhr University in Bochum , at the University of Bonn and in Jerusalem from 1980 to 1985 . In 1988 he entered the Essenes seminary and received on 1 June 1990 along with nine other deacons by Cardinal Franz Hengsbach in Essen Cathedral , the ordination . In the same year he was in Bochum at Wilhelm Geerlings with a thesis on the image of Christ Aphraates the Persian wise to Dr. theol. PhD. After four years of pastoral care in Gelsenkirchen-Buer , he completed his habilitation in 1994, also with Geerlings, with a study on the catechetical homilies of Theodor von Mopsuestia . In addition to his research work at the Ruhr University in Bochum, he worked as a subsidiar in Riemke in the following years .

Since May 2000 Peter Bruns has been Professor of Church History with a focus on Patrology at the University of Bamberg .
