Peter Canero (born January 18, 1981 in Glasgow ) is a former Scottish football player .

Career

In the club

Peter Canero was born in January 1981 in the Scottish metropolis of Glasgow . He began his career in the town of Kilmarnock, about 40 kilometers away . Canero played for the city's football club from 1997. He made his professional debut in August 1999 against FC Aberdeen . In his second professional season with the Killies , he was able to fight for a place in the starting XI. With the Killies he was able to qualify once for the UEFA Cup and was in 2001 in the Scottish League Cup final , which was lost to Celtic Glasgow . As a regular player Canero moved to the English first division club Leicester City in January 2004 for £ 250,000 . Under coach Micky Adams Canero came after his commitment due to knee problems in the remainder of the 2003/04 season only in seven league games for use. The Foxes were relegated to the championship at the end of the season . In the following second division season he completed only six missions under Adams and his successor Craig Levein , who had taken over as coach in October 2004. The reason for the short period of use was a hip operation. In July 2005, the 24-year-old's contract in Leicester was terminated prematurely one year before the end. From September to December 2005 Canero was with Dundee United under contract, and played eleven games and scored two goals. In January 2006 Canero moved to the New York Metro Stars , who were trained by Mo Johnston . In the same year he ended his professional career after a knee operation.

National team

Peter Canero played once for the Scottish national team against Denmark in 2004 when he was substituted on by Berti Vogts for Gary Holt .
