Peter Färber (born October 16, 1922 in Mistelbach ; † August 10, 2009 in Bayreuth ) was a German local politician ( Bayreuth Community ).

Life

Peter Färber passed his Abitur at the Christian-Ernestinum grammar school in Bayreuth and then studied English, French and philosophy. During the Second World War he was captured by the US and interned in France. After initially working as a high school teacher in Coburg , he returned to his old school. Until his retirement there he was French teacher, director of studies and deputy headmaster. In 1966 he was elected to the Bayreuth City Council, of which he was a member until 1996. From 1972 to 1996 he was deputy mayor. As a representative of the Bayreuth community, he was also the deputy chairman of the parliamentary group from 1978 to 1996.

Färber was particularly committed to the twinning between Bayreuth and the French city of Annecy , which he helped to initiate. For his services to the Franco-German friendship he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor and an honorary citizen of Annecy. He was also awarded the Golden Ring of Honor in 1968 and honorary citizenship of the city of Bayreuth in 1996. In 1987 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.

Färber died on August 10, 2009 after a long illness. In 2011 the city of Annecy awarded the Peter Färber Prize for services to the town twinning for the first time.
