Coat of arms of the city of Bayreuth

The city of Bayreuth has granted honorary citizenship to the following people since 1851 . The city of Bayreuth officially distanced itself from the granting of honorary citizenship rights to Adolf Hitler and HS Chamberlain in a city council meeting on December 21, 1988. A legal withdrawal was not possible, since the status of honorary citizen expires with the death of the honoree. On November 27, 2013, City Councilors symbolically revoked Adolf Hitler and HS Chamberlain as well as Hans Schemm, Ludwig Siebert and Adolf Hühnlein their honorary citizenship and renounced the honorary citizenship rights granted to representatives, ideologues and advocates of National Socialism, especially in the period from 1933 to 1945, distant.
