Peter George Xuereb

Peter George Xuereb (born October 14, 1954 ) is a Maltese - British lawyer and judge . Xuereb has been a judge at the European Court of Justice (ECJ) since October 8, 2018 .

Career

Peter George Xuereb completed his legal education from 1972 to 1977 at the University of Malta . There he gained in October 1976, first the Diploma of Notary Public (Dip. NP) and in November 1977 the degree as Doctor of Law ( Doctor of Laws , LL.D.). In 1978 he was admitted to the bar in Malta, while at the same time completing a postgraduate master's degree specializing in corporate and maritime transport law at University College London , which Xuereb completed in November 1979 as a Master of Laws (LL.M.). From 1979 to 1983 he also completed a doctoral degree at Gonville and Caius College at the University of Cambridge , where he wrote a doctoral thesis on The Legal Principles Underlying Some Areas of English, Italian and French Company Law in January 1983 . From 1982 to 1985 Peter George Xuereb was a lecturer at Ealing College of Higher Education in London , from 1985 to 1990 at the University of Exeter . From 1990 to 1993 he was Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary and Westfield College of the University of London . In 1993 he was finally appointed professor of European and comparative law at the University of Malta , where he still works today.

In 2016 he was initially appointed judge at the General Court of the European Union (EGG), and on October 8, 2018, Peter George Xuereb succeeded Anthony Borg Barthet as a Maltese judge at the European Court of Justice .
