Peter Goldreich
Peter Martin Goldreich (born July 14, 1939 in New York City ) is an American astrophysicist .
Life
Goldreich received his PhD in physics from Cornell University in 1963 . After a stay at Cambridge University , he became an assistant professor at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1964 . In 1966 he moved to the California Institute of Technology where he was professor until his retirement in 2003. He then joined the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton .
Goldreich's theoretical work spans many topics, including planets and their rings, the dynamics of galaxies , astrophysical masers , the interstellar medium , pulsars and helioseismology .

 - 2007 Shaw Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Theoretical Astrophysics and Planetary Science
 - The asteroid 3805 Goldreich was named after him.
