Peter Grünig

Peter Ernst Grünig (born April 29, 1923 in Biel / Bienne ; † November 11, 1977 in Baden ) was a Swiss forest engineer and politician ( FDP ). From 1967 to 1977 he represented the canton of Aargau in the National Council .

biography

Grünig, whose town was the municipality of Burgistein , grew up in the city of Biel, where he completed his entire school education up to the Matura . In 1942 he began to study forestry at the ETH Zurich . After graduating as a forest engineer in 1947, he gained his first practical experience in Basel and Sarnen . In 1949 he passed the state examination , after which he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Silviculture at ETH Zurich. He received his doctorate in 1955 and the following year he moved with his family to Baden , where he began to work as a city forester . Grünig managed the extensive forests of Baden's local community based on the latest scientific findings, and his work served as a role model beyond the canton's borders. In the Swiss Army he had the rank of lieutenant colonel in the infantry, and for several years he presided over the Baden officers' society.

Soon after moving to Baden, Grünig began to get involved politically, initially at the local level. From 1962 to 1970 he was president of the FDP local party in Baden. In 1967 he was elected to the National Council and was re-elected twice. During his time in the National Council, he was a member of the management of the Aargau FDP, and he was also a member of the executive committee of the Swiss Forestry Association. Particular political concerns for him included environmental protection, nature and homeland protection, spatial planning and land law, as well as education and military policy. At the age of 54, Grünig died of heart failure.
