From 1938 Greve worked as a freelance sculptor. He lived in Bissendorf .

In the post-war period, after 1946, Greve worked as a painter and sculptor. From 1950 to 1974 he accepted orders and works on churches and public buildings in Lower Saxony and Hesse. In the 1950s he also took part in group exhibitions in Hanover, Göttingen and Kassel. Memorial for the victims of the Lengede mine disaster

Since 1951 he was married to the portrait painter and book illustrator Ursula Greve (1919–2007). Together they created u. a. the memorial for the Lengede mine disaster in the Lower Saxony municipality of Lengede .

Greve's son Henning (* 1954) started his career as a steel designer.

When a boulder was found during the construction of the school on Pyrmonter Straße in Oberricklingen in 1956 , the city of Hanover commissioned the sculptor to create a sculpture from it. Today it stands in the school yard of the Martin Luther King School special needs school .

After Peter Greve took part in exhibitions again from 1975, he once formulated his work as follows:

"I see my job in the search for color and shape sounds, rhythms and structures that correspond to seeing and experiencing, but not the naturalistic imitation of the environment."
