Peter Grzan
Peter "Pit" Grzan (born July 28, 1951 in Wanne-Eickel , † July 15, 2014 in Marburg ) was a German artist .
Life
Peter Grzan completed his art studies in Dortmund and Kassel. His often provocative, satirical works and actions, often with anti-militaristic or anti-clerical content, earned him the reputation of an enfant terrible of the art scene early on (from 1968) .
Multimedia experiments and his commitment to a freely interpreted rock music, which on the one hand was based on patterns of popular music and on the other had the character of a happening, consolidated this reputation. The makers of the satirical magazine Pardon became aware of him around 1980 . His first work for the magazine, a kit reminiscent of children's toys, with which one could crucify Jesus himself and turn water into wine, was not only a scandal, but also the basis of a long-term, extremely productive collaboration. This was followed by work for the satirical magazine Titanic . In the Piet Kröte Peep Show , Grzan's uncompromising musical interpretation , reminiscent of punk , found its consistent continuation through more than three hundred appearances in which, in addition to music and a bizarre star cult, curious objects and shows were presented (for example the microphone as an ice cream cone or a guitar that splintered at the slightest touch). Much later developments, for example in the area of television shows, were visionarily anticipated.
Peter Grzan lived in Dülmen since 1995 and was also committed to culture and art there. In July 2014, shortly before his 63rd birthday, he died unexpectedly of the consequences of an operation.
activity
For Grzan, art was primarily a means of communication. Performances and exhibitions were an opportunity for him to create publicity. He used a variety of manual and artistic techniques to create a very unique, often amazing reality. In 1975 he was a founding member of the world's first culturally used mine, our Fritz .
In 1976 he started his traveling exhibition - equipped with strap-on picture frames, he visited art fairs in knee breeches and with a walking stick ( Art Cologne in Cologne, International Art and Information Fair Düsseldorf and the documenta in Kassel). Quote:
"If you move, you don't pay a stand fee."
In 1984 he and other artists founded the art association ART'IG , which has since organized more than 150 events and curious exhibitions. Since the 1990s, Grzan has been running his home for unloved works of art , in which he has found a new home for works of art that no one wanted anymore for various reasons through sometimes curious reworking. In 1998 Grzan got involved in the first puppet theater festival in Dülmen, the Dülmener Figurentheatertage .
Since 2000 he has been promoting his academy for interdisciplinary creativity , the aim of which was to initiate creative processes and to open up career opportunities for creative people. In 2002 Grzan had ten painted parasols travel the world. Photos by eight photographers documented and interpreted the action. The screens were present in various places and the results of the action were shown in 2002 a. a. shown in a large exhibition in the Ruhr area.
In 2005 he helped raise money for a disaster area in Kashmir with his project Cash for Kashmir . On the occasion of the night of industrial culture in 2006, Grzan installed his SOS (Sound or Silence) project in a hall under the shaft structure of the Ewald colliery in Herten : international DJs broadcast music that the dancing visitors could only listen to via headphones.
In 2008, during the Night of Industrial Culture , he opened the “first specialist clinic for malpractice”.
