Peter H. Kostmayer

Peter Houston Kostmayer (born September 27, 1946 in New York City ) is an American politician . Between 1977 and 1981 and again from 1983 to 1993 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Peter Kostmayer attended public schools in his New York homeland and in Solebury, Pennsylvania. In 1965 he graduated from the West Nottingham Academy in Colora ( Maryland ). This was followed by studies at Columbia University in New York until 1971 . In 1971 and 1972 he worked as a reporter. From 1972 to 1973 he was the press secretary for the Attorney General of Pennsylvania. He then acted as deputy press spokesman for the governor there until 1976 . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1976 congressional election , Kostmayer was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Edward G. Biester on January 3, 1977 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1981 . In 1980 he was defeated by Republican James K. Coyne . Two years later he moved again for the eighth district of his state in the US House of Representatives, where he replaced Coyne on January 3, 1983. After four re-elections, he was able to spend five more legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 1993. In 1992 he was not re-elected.

In 1994 and 1995 Kostmayer worked for the state environmental protection agency EPA in Philadelphia . Later he was president of Zero Population Growth . In 2002 he ran unsuccessfully for the Pennsylvania Senate . Today he headed the Citizens Committee for New York City .
