Peter Hirsch (conductor)

Peter Hirsch (* 1956 in Cologne ) is a German conductor .

Life

Hirsch received his first piano lessons at the age of five. Music theory and counterpoint lessons with Johannes Fritsch in Cologne followed in the next few years . He then studied piano with Alfons Kontarsky and conducting with Wolfgang von der Nahmer at the Cologne University of Music and Dance . He then worked as assistant to Michael Gielen at the Frankfurt Opera . From 1984 to 1987 he was the first Kapellmeister there. He conducted the world premiere of Hans Zender's opera Stephen Climax and Luigi Nono's Risonanze Erranti .

This was followed by productions in Europe (including Welsh National Opera , English National Opera , Nederlandse Opera and Staatsoper Unter den Linden ) and Canada. Hirsch has been invited as a guest conductor to the USA, Holland and Belgium. He has also worked with orchestras such as the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin , Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin , Radio Symphony Orchestra Saarbrücken , Radio Symphony Orchestra Frankfurt , Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart , SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg , MDR Symphony Orchestra , Bern Symphony Orchestra , KBS Symphony Orchestra, Gürzenich-Orchester , Staatskapelle Weimar , Münchner Philharmoniker , Orchester National de Belgique, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Residentie Orkest, Staatsorchester Mainz , Ensemble recherche , Collegium Novum Zurich , Basel Sinfonietta , Camerata Salzburg and Ensemble Contrechamps. It has taken him to festivals such as the Salzburg Festival , Warsaw Autumn , MusikTriennale Köln , Biennale di Venezia , Munich Biennale , Bologna Festival, Ars Musica, Berliner Festwochen and Festival d'automne à Paris.

He conducted several world premieres a. a. by Bernd Alois Zimmermann , Luigi Nono, Hans Zender, Helmut Lachenmann and Georg Friedrich Haas . Several times his recordings have been awarded the best list of the German Record Critics' Prize.
