Peter Koch (MfS employee)

Peter Koch (born July 19, 1929 in Stettin ; † May 3, 1990 in the Neustrelitz district ) was a German major general of the Ministry for State Security (MfS) and head of the MfS district administration in Neubrandenburg .

Life

Peter Koch, the son of a teacher, attended high school until 1944 and then worked as a forest worker. From 1945 to 1948 he learned the trade of a locksmith and then worked in the trade in a machine-tractor station (MTS). In 1946 he became a member of the SED and from 1950 to 1952 attended the German Administration Academy in Forst-Zinna, where he graduated as a qualified economist. He was employed by the council of the district of Neubrandenburg and head of the political department of the MTS district administration in Neubrandenburg.

In 1953 he joined the Kasernierte Volkspolizei (KVP) and became a teacher at the Political College of the KVP in Potsdam . In the same year he moved to the MfS and there to the economics department of the Potsdam district administration. He completed a correspondence course at the Law School (JHS) of the MfS Potsdam-Eiche from 1960 to 1965 with a degree in law. From 1962 to 1975 he was Deputy Operational of the Head of the Potsdam District Administration of the MfS. In 1972 the doctorate to Dr. jur. also at the JHS Potsdam-Eiche. In 1976 he went to the MfS district administration in Neubrandenburg as a deputy operative, and in 1977 he succeeded Major General Alfred Böhm as head of the district administration.

From February 1979 to December 1989 he was also a member of the SED district leadership in Neubrandenburg. In 1980 he was appointed major general. In November 1989 he became head of the newly created District Office for National Security, but announced on December 9, 1989 that this office had been discontinued. In January 1990 he was released and temporarily detained on suspicion of "infidelity to the detriment of socialist property". He died by suicide .
