Peter Kuhn (theologian)

Peter Kuhn (* 1938 in Dinkelsbühl ) is a German Judaist and theologian .

Life

In 1957, Kuhn graduated from the Humanistic Gymnasium near St. Anna in Augsburg . From 1957 to 1965 he studied Protestant and Catholic theology , Jewish and Semitic studies in Tübingen , Basel and Bonn . With an investigation into God's self-humiliation in the theology of rabbis , he received his doctorate in 1965 under Otto Spies at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn. From 1966 to 1972 Kuhn was a research assistant at the chair for dogmatics or dogmatics and the history of dogmas of Joseph Ratzinger at the universities of Tübingen and Regensburg . From 1972 to 1975 he studied Catholic theology at the University of Regensburg, where he received his doctorate with a study on God's grief and lament in rabbinical tradition under Heinrich Groß . From 1977 to 1980 Kuhn was an advisor to the episcopal vicar for questions of faith, Hubert Luthe , at the Archdiocese of Cologne , where he worked on the revision of the standard translation of the Bible (Old Testament). From 1980 to 1982 he received a habilitation grant from the German Research Association. With a thesis on the voices of revelation in ancient Judaism , he completed his habilitation in 1986 in Judaism at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . From 1986 to 1990 he held lectures at the universities of Frankfurt, Eichstätt and Duisburg . From 1991 to 2013 Kuhn was Professor of Jewish Studies at the Philosophical-Theological College of the Salesians Don Bosco in Benediktbeuern .
