Peter Kunze

Peter Kunze (Sorbian Pětr Kunca , born December 24, 1942 in Bautzen ) is a German Sorabist and author of numerous works on Sorbian history.

Life

After visiting the Sorbian Extended Secondary School in Bautzen and Kleinwelka Peter Kunze studied since 1961 History and Sorbian at the University of Leipzig . In 1966 he obtained his diploma and after his military service he was a research assistant at the historical department of the Institute for Sorbian Folk Research in Bautzen.

In 1982 he was appointed head of the Sorbian cultural archive at the institute, and in 1986 head of the history department. In the meantime he also headed the Sorbian Central Library. Peter Kunze was the editorial secretary of the historical series (B) of the scientific journal Lětopis .

After 1990 he continued his work at the institute and continued to play a key role in the publication of Lětopis as an editor and author. In 2007 he retired.

Peter Kunze was a member of the board of the Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences in Görlitz and other commissions and bodies. He published many books and essays on Sorbian history.

Peter Kunze lives in Bautzen and Gütersloh.
