Peter Müller (doctor)

Peter Müller (born November 21, 1836 in New Orleans , † November 25, 1922 in Konstanz ) was a German gynecologist and university professor.

Life

Peter Müller came to Klingenmünster with his parents from the USA at the age of three. He attended the humanistic grammar school at the Kaiserdom in Speyer. After graduating from high school, he studied medicine at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg and the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen . In 1857 he was reciprocated in the Corps Rhenania Würzburg . In 1861 he passed the state examination in Munich. In 1862 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD. Then he was assistant to Friedrich Wilhelm von Scanzoni until 1866 . As such, he was probably the first to describe pyelonephritis in a pregnant woman. After participating as a medical officer in the German War , he continued his education in Berlin and Munich. In 1868 he completed his habilitation in gynecology in Würzburg. His apartment was in the maternity hospital there at the time. From 1869 to 1874 Müller was chairman of the Würzburg Medical District Association. In 1873 he was appointed associate professor with teaching assignment at the University of Würzburg. A year later he was appointed University of Bern as o. Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and director of the new cantonal to be set up maternity and women's hospital Bern. In the academic year 1882/83 he was rector of the University of Bern. In 1911 he retired. Under the leadership of Müller, the Bern women's clinic achieved a high reputation in the professional world.
