Petrus Mederus , Latinized for Peter Meder , also Medaer , Medaerus (* 1602 in Zeiden , † January 11, 1678 in Kronstadt ) was a Transylvanian-Saxon poet , clergyman , theologian and educator .

Life

Mederus was the son of poor parents. He began his education at the Kronstadt grammar school . For his further education he wanted to visit other well-known schools, but was only equipped with five cruisers . He is said to have left Kronstadt around 1630. His first station was the Thorner Gymnasium , from which he moved to the Academic Gymnasium Danzig . With this previous education he went on to Rostock . There he was matriculated at the University of Rostock as Petrus Mederus, Czydinensis Transsylvani . At this university he devoted himself to studying theology , philosophy and classical philology and at least obtained his master's degree . Presumably he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . During this extended period of study he hired himself as a private tutor .

Mederus already distinguished himself as a poet at this time. On April 25, 1638 he was honored by Count Palatine Hadrian von Mynsicht with the poet's crown , as an imperial crowned poet. Then he returned to his home in Transylvania. In 1638 he was still a teacher at the Kronstadt grammar school, in 1640 he was given the post of rector , which he held over the next four years. Five more years followed in which it is unknown what activity Meder pursued.

Mederus became pastor in the city of Honigberg in 1649 . In 1653 he received the pastor's office in his hometown of Zeiden, but one year later, on November 19, 1654, he followed a call as city pastor back to Kronstadt. In this position he held the office of dean of the Burzenland chapter from around 1670 until the end of his life . In this capacity he is said to have published several theological writings.
