Peter Ruhso (born May 23, 1943 in Vienna ) is an Austrian painter.

Life

Even as a small boy, Peter Ruhso drew where and when it was possible. By drawing, he was able to put himself in a better and more beautiful world in order to escape the harsh everyday life of the Viennese post-war period. At the age of 14, Ruhso began an apprenticeship as a goldsmith and jewelry designer, which he successfully completed.

A good friend of Peter Ruhso, the architect and watercolorist Helmut Kern, recommended Ruhso to attend the Vienna art school in the 1970s . From 1970 to 1971 Peter Ruhso was director of the “Galerie Fath” in Vienna . From 1975 to 1979, Ruhso studied painting at the Vienna Art School, specializing in “nude and animal drawing”. His main professor and mentor was Fritz Martinz .

In the period from 1979 to 2003 Peter Ruhso made a name for himself in Vienna as “The Coffee House Painter”, as he spent hours in a coffee house at least once a week with coffee and cigars to study the human figure in the form of drawings / sketches and even to make large-format paintings. “The coffee house visitors were cheap models,” says Peter Ruhso. At that time, Peter Ruhso was mainly to be found in the old Viennese coffee houses called Sperl , Dommayer , Demel and Café Central . Ruhso has been active as a freelance artist / painter since 1979.
