Peter Sasse (theologian)

Peter Sasse (born January 3, 1709 in Rostock ; † September 14, 1776 ibid) was a German Lutheran theologian, historian and university professor.

Life

Peter Sasse was a son of the royal Danish war commissioner Daniel Sasse. From 1723 he studied theology at the universities of Rostock , Jena and Wittenberg . In 1733 he received his master's degree in Rostock and then worked there as a private lecturer. In 1741 he was appointed ducal full conciliar professor of history by Duke Karl Leopold of Mecklenburg at the Philosophical Faculty of Rostock University. He received the professorship of David Heinrich Köpken, who died in 1731 . In 1743 he received his doctorate in theology. In 1745 he was procurator and in 1747 dean of the faculty. In 1748 he moved to the theological faculty, where he was appointed ducal full professor of theology and also a real consistorial councilor. He was also Vice Rector in 1751 . In the 1750s he almost went blind, in 1756 he was retired. Peter Sasse was married to Charlotte Wilhelmine Thym (1714–1787) since February 4, 1750, the marriage remained childless. Sasse donated the “Sassian Scholarship” endowed with 17,800 thalers.
