Peter Closer

Peter Closer (born July 14, 1939 ) is a German sports official and basketball referee .

Life

From 1978 until his retirement in July 2004, Closer, who initially worked for the Deutsche Bundesbahn , was the sports facility director responsible for the operation of the Berlin Olympic Stadium , the Waldbühne , the Maifeld and the hockey, swimming and riding stadiums. He was nicknamed " Mr. Olympic Stadium ". During his tenure, closing time had his official apartment in the gate house at the east gate of the stadium. At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, he was the sports facility manager of the basketball tournament hall, in 1974 he was responsible for organizing the games held in Berlin during the soccer world championship and in 1978 he was the coordinator of the swimming world championship in Berlin .

In 1993 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .

After he retired in 2004, he joined the Organizing Committee for the 2006 World Cup in January 2005 as head of the “Cities and Stadiums” department. In the run-up to and during the tournament, he was responsible for implementing the infrastructural requirements in the venues, especially in and around the stadiums.

As a basketball official, Closer, who was active in the sport with the Neukölln Sportfreunde , became youth warden of the German Basketball Federation (DBB) in 1968 . In 1972 he was elected to the youth committee of the world association FIBA and re-elected in 1976 and 1980. As president of the Berlin Basketball Association, he brought the 1980 European Cup final between Real Madrid and Maccabi Tel Aviv to Berlin's Deutschlandhalle . In 1984 he moved to the board of the German Basketball Federation as Vice President of "Gaming and Sports Organization". From 1985, Closer was a member of the technical commission of the European basketball association FIBA Europe , and for years he was the technical commissioner for FIBA ​​at European cup and international matches. He was also a basketball referee for decades and also directed games at international level, such as the European Cup .

In 1989, the BG Charlottenburg was founded in Schliesser's apartment as the successor to DTV Charlottenburg and the forerunner of Alba Berlin ; from 1991 to November 2016, Closer was Vice President of Alba Berlin.
