Peter Unruh (* 1965 in Peine ) is a German legal scholar , university professor and president of the regional church office of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .

Life

Peter Unruh studied law at the University of Göttingen from 1984 to 1989 . There he received his doctorate in 1993 after being supervised by Ralf Dreier with a dissertation on the state philosophy of Immanuel Kant . He completed his legal clerkship from 1993 to 1995 at the Hamburg Higher Regional Court . From 1995 to 2001 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Göttingen. In 2001 his habilitation followed on the basis of a thesis on the constitutional concept of the Basic Law . He was awarded the license to teach public law, European law and legal philosophy.

In 2005 Unruh joined the then North Elbian Evangelical Lutheran Church and headed the legal department in the North Elbian Church Office in Kiel . In the course of the formation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany, he became President of the State Church Office with its seat in Kiel and a branch in Schwerin in September 2012 . As President he is an advisory member of the church leadership and takes part in the meetings of the regional synod in an advisory capacity. He is responsible for maintaining relations with the EKD , VELKD and UEK as well as between church and state.

Since May 2005 he has also been an adjunct professor for public law , European law and legal philosophy at the University of Göttingen. He is a member of the Association of German Constitutional Law Teachers and co-editor of the magazine for Protestant church law .

Peter Unruh is married and has two children. The family lives in Heikendorf near Kiel.
