In 1992 the Peter von Danzig , named after the ship of the same name , was put into service by the Academic Sailing Association in Kiel as a new ocean-going yacht and replacement for the Yawl of the same name that was sold in the previous year . This is a Nissen 55, a single construction. The Peter (contrary to nautical tradition, a male ship) has meanwhile made a number of Atlantic crossings and one circumnavigation of the world . He won the Schlimbach Prize once , successfully took part in a circumnavigation of the world in 1996/1997 via Hong Kong and Japan and was sailed to Germany in the transatlantic regatta " DaimlerChrysler North Atlantic Challenge " together with his predecessor in 2003 from the USA.

The ASV in Kiel uses the ship to train its members in deep sea sailing. The highlights here are the Atlantic trips, which take place roughly every 4 years, most recently in 2017.
