The Pethangtse is a six-thousander on the border between the Nepalese administrative zone Koshi and Tibet, southeast of Mount Everest .
The 6739 m high Pethangtse is a continuation of the Lhotse - Nuptse ridge. The Shartse rises to the west . To the southeast the ridge continues to the Makalu massif. The Kangshung Glacier flows in an easterly direction along the northern flank . In the south is the nutrient area of the Barun Glacier .
Ascent history
The Pethangtse was first climbed in May 1954 as part of the Makalu exploration expedition for Edmund Hillary by Michael Ball, Norman Hardie, Brian Wilkins and Urkien Sherpa coming from the southeast.
