Petko Rossen (also written Petko Rosen , Bulgarian Петко Росен ; * October 15, 1880 in Kofçaz , then the Ottoman Empire, today in Turkey ; † April 30, 1944 in Burgas , Bulgaria ), maiden name Petko Georgiev Chorbadschiew (Bulgarian Петко Георгиев Чорбжерб) , was a Bulgarian freedom fighter, member of the BMARK , writer , literary critic and politician of the Democratic Party .

Life

Petko Rossen was born in the Ottoman Kowtschas (now in Turkey). His father Georgi Chorbadschiew was one of the wealthiest traders and breeders in the area. As a child, Petko moved with his family in the liberated part of Bulgaria , to the village of Gerge bunar ( Bulgarian Герге бунар in the eastern Bulgarian municipality of Sredez ) , which was abandoned by the Circassians , and later to Burgas, where his father became the owner of the Minkow restaurant .

In 1901 Petko finished high school in Ruse , one of the largest and most progressive Bulgarian cities of the time. He took part in the Balkan Wars in 1912/13 and in the First World War. He then enrolled in the historical-philological faculty at the University of Sofia , but later switched to law. In 1903 Petko Rossen took part in the Ilinden-Preobraschenie uprising in the Strandscha Mountains, which was directed against the Bulgarian territories under Ottoman-Turkish authority. After the failure of the uprising, he moved to Paris and Geneva , where he studied law. From 1909, after completing his studies, he lived in the Black Sea port city of Burgas.

Petko Rossen wrote his first review of the work Na Krastopat (Bulgar. "На кръстопът") by Anton Straschimirow . It was published in the magazine Demokratitscheski pregled (bulg. Демократически преглед). He was an employee of the magazine Misal (bulg. Мисъл) and the newspapers Zarya (Заря), Slovo (Слово) Swobodna retsch (Свободна реч) Prjaporez (Пряпорец) Burgaski far (Бургаски фар) Burgaska Poschta (Бургаска поща) Slatorog (Златорог) and Filosofski pregled (Философски преглед).

In 1931, Petko Rossen was elected to the list of the Democratic Party as a member of the Bulgarian parliament . During the Second World War he was arrested and interned in Panagyurishte .

In recent years, Petko Rossen kept a diary of his contacts and meetings with Bulgarian intellectuals. Some of his memoirs were published post mortem .

Petko Rossen died on April 30, 1944 in Burgas.
