Rossen ( Bulgarian Росен ) is a Bulgarian village in the municipality of Sozopol , Province of Burgas . The village is located on the Rossen River (tributary of the Ropotamo ) on the western slopes of the 228.5 m high summit Großer Rossen ( ⊙ ), which is part of the Meden rid chain of hills or the Strandscha Mountains. The Bakarlak peak with the remains of the late antique Krimna fortress and the Ala tepe peak and the Rossen mining settlement are also nearby . Until 1934 the village was called Mehmeç köy (Bulgarian Мехмеч кьой). Today the village bears the name of the writer Petko Rossen .

By Rossen leading national road 3rd order III / 992 , which Burgas to the north with Yasna Polyana and Primorsko connects the south. The village is located approx. 22 km northwest of the Sozopol community center and approx. 10 km south of the city of Burgas. There is no direct road connection to the community center, it is via Rawadinowo .

The first modern school of today's Sozopol was opened in Rossen in 1830 and was taught according to the Lancaster method . In 1882 the Georgkirche was inaugurated with typical icons from the Strandscha Mountains. The Rossen copper mine on the eastern slopes of the Großer Rossen and Bakarlak peaks was closed in the 1990s.

The village festival takes place on May 24th.
