Petra Freudenberger-Lötz (born June 22, 1966 in Heilbronn ) is a German religious educator , professor at the University of Kassel and author in the field of religious teaching. She is considered a pioneer of theologizing with adolescents and is the publisher of textbooks, well-known school books and the yearbook for child and youth theology .

Since 2019, Freudenberger-Lötz has been the dean of the Humanities and Cultural Studiesfaculty, combining disciplines that traditionally belong together in one university due to their origin and research focus: philosophy , theology and philologies .

Career

From 1985 to 1989, Freudenberger-Lötz studied teaching for elementary and secondary schools with the subjects of Protestant theology , sport and introductory classes at the Freiburg University of Education , completing the first state examination . This was followed from 1990 to 1991 the preparatory service for the teaching post at primary and secondary schools and from the school year 1991/1992 teaching at the Langenbrettach primary school (near Heilbronn ), a teaching assignment at the state seminar for practical school training and a job as a trainer in the " Third phase “teacher training in Heilbronn. She then began a diploma course in school education / religious education at the Heidelberg University of Education , which she completed in 1998. From the winter semester 1999/2000 to the winter semester 2006/2007 there was a secondment from the school service to the Karlsruhe University of Education for the "promotion of young scientists" with the aim of a doctorate and habilitation . In 2003 she did her doctorate on religious education in the new school entrance level. Religious educational and elementary school educational perspectives. In 2006 it became the subject of Theological Conversations with Children. Studies on the professionalization of students and impulses for research-based learning in religious education .

Freudenberger-Lötz has held a full professorship for Protestant religious education at the University of Kassel since July 2007, where she was Dean of Humanities and Cultural Studies from 2011 to 2014 .

Research and Teaching

Her research focus is on the subject of child and youth theology, i.e. theology produced by children and young people themselves . To a certain extent, it is a cross-sectional discipline of theology, (empirical) social science , developmental psychology and children's philosophy. In the research workshops of the University of Kassel, teacher training students try out theological conversations with pupils from partner schools under her leadership. Numerous publications and lectures support teachers in integrating child and youth theology into everyday teaching.

Appreciation and gratitude are further research focal points, which also play a central role in accompanying various school development projects; Particularly noteworthy is the partner school Ngotas' Upendo Primary School and Orphanage , a school with an orphanage in a slum in the Kenyan capital Nairobi .

In addition, Freudenberger-Lötz combines her passion for sport (for example, she won the Bad Hersfeld Lollslauf in the 10 km discipline in 2014) with her professional tasks and thus sets very special accents within religious education (e.g. "EXPERIENCE APPRECIATION - 66 Days of Gratitude ”, a project of the research semester summer 2018). The experiences of her almost 3,000 kilometer “pilgrimage” on the bike were learned in autumn 2019 in a book entitled 66 Days of Gratitude. Courage for the best life. released.
