Petra Wagner (sports scientist)

Petra Wagner (* 1967 ) is a German sports scientist and university lecturer .

Life

Wagner completed her studies at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) , which she began in 1985, in 1989 with a diploma thesis on the subject of "Stress Management - Modification and Review of a Diagnostic Procedure for Detecting Coping". Between 1989 and 1992 she worked as a research assistant at the DHfK and then at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . In 1993, Wagner took up a position as a research assistant at Roland Singer's Institute for Sports Science at the Technical University of Darmstadt , which she held until 2001. During this time she wrote her doctoral thesis, which was accepted in 1998. The topic of the thesis was "Determinants of the maintenance of physical activity by adults in health-oriented sports programs". In 1999 Wagner was awarded the Karl Feige Prize by the Working Group for Sport Psychology and in the same year received the Science Prize of the European Confederation for Health and Sport (CESS).

In 2001 she worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Sports Science at the University of Vienna , and between 2002 and 2005, Wagener was a research assistant or senior assistant at the Institute for Sports Science at the University of Bayreuth . From April 2006 to September 2007, Wagner held the position of substitute professor for sports science at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern and was then full professor for sports science with a focus on social sciences at the same university from 2007 to 2009. In 2008, after the birth of her son, she took nine months of parental leave. In 2009 she became professor for health and rehabilitation sport at the University of Leipzig and head of the institute for health and rehabilitation sport.

Wagner's research focuses on the subject of "physical activity, physical performance and health", prevention and health promotion, sport with overweight children as well as sport and exercise behavior.
