description

View to Prague Castle

The almost completely forested hill is one of the preferred local recreation areas for the population of Prague. There are numerous historical buildings and sights on it. The small St. Laurentius Church was built here in the Middle Ages and was redesigned in the Baroque style in the 18th century. During the reign of Charles IV , the hunger wall , a Gothic bulwark, was built.

On the occasion of the anniversary exhibition in 1891, a funicular and a historical mirror labyrinth were added. Both are still in operation or can be viewed. The Petřín lookout tower (stairs with a height difference of 60 meters) was also built for the same reason. It is a scaled-down replica of the Paris Eiffel Tower and is considered a landmark of the city that can be seen from afar. This tower allows a comprehensive view of Prague and the wider area.

The Laurenziberg is mentioned in Franz Kafka's short story Description of a Struggle as well as in Milan Kundera's novel The unbearable lightness of being .
