history

In 1232 the Tautenburg taverns had a chapel built on the mountain in the castle , then a small village church with a separate bell house . This church was dilapidated and was demolished in 1882.

On June 18, 1882 the foundation stone was laid for the current church, which was built in the neo-Gothic style. Pastor Hermann Otto Stölten and church builder Karl Weise were the driving forces. The church was inaugurated on September 15, 1883 with the involvement of the founders and donors. The Schenk zu Tautenburg from East Prussia and the Grand Duke from Weimar were also present.

Design of the nave

The pulpit is in the southeast choir . Pictures of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon are attached to the sides of the altar . Figures of Peter and Paul adorn the pulpit.

The baptistery with two-part windows is located in the west choir . In the chamber of paraments is the epitaph for Pastor Friedrich Butze, who died in Tautenburg in 1650. The colorful portrait of Stölten can be seen in the window.

The multi-row gallery and the organ were installed later and inaugurated in 1885.

The bells are digitally controlled. The bronze bell dates from 1515. The cast steel bell from 1925 replaces a bell that was melted down in 1914 for the First World War . In 1989 and after 1990 the building and roof were renovated.
